David joined the UCD Innovation Academy team in 2021. He has worked for more than twenty years at the forefront of digital and data transformations at individual, organisational and societal levels in the public and private sectors, and more than a decade working at the leading edge of the ethical application of machine learning and data science to complex industry and societal challenges.

He co-founded the Data Science Campus, the UK government’s data science research and innovation hub based at the Office for National Statistics, leading data science capacity-building for the UK public sector and championing the development of data science standards and best practices within the international development sector. Prior to this he was part of the operational leadership team that set up Google’s European headquarters in Dublin, and co-founded a machine learning and computer vision start-up that raised over €2m in Seed and EU R&D funding. David drives operational innovation within UCD Innovation Academy, developing a scalable culture of operational and programme innovation across a wide area of responsibilities, including operations and programme management, financial planning and analysis, marketing and business development, information management and technology integration.
