Wolfgang Marx is a Historical Musicologist who joined UCD in 2002. His research interests include post-truth and music, György Ligeti, music and death, and the theory of musical genres. His teaching is guided by three central concerns: the mutual benefit of teaching and research, interdisciplinary approaches, and student engagement.
Plans for the UCD Innovation Academy Fellowship 2021:
As an Innovation Fellow I plan to work on an exploration of the links between critical thinking and its necessary ethical foundations (the neglect of which probably has contributed to our current post-truth mentality), as well as on the conceptual and pedagogical realisation of “Critical Acting”, i.e. the practical implementation of the results of critical thinking. In collaboration with the Innovation Academy’s team I hope to develop creative and innovative approaches to address these issues in my teaching and contribute to “rebuilding our society differently after Covid-19” as envisaged by the Convene project.
