About

Dorcas’ own higher-education journey started with an Electrical Engineering degree at UCD. She went on to complete an MSc in eCommerce at Dublin City University and then embarked on a long and varied career. Dorcas worked as a Process Engineer for Intel. She then founded various businesses, including an award-winning digital marketing company. She has been a trainer/mentor with various Local Enterprise Offices, and has consulted with businesses of all sizes. And she’s acted as both speaker and host at various international conferences.

Dorcas has worked in adult education for over ten years. She’s taught people with acquired brain injuries, small business owners, start-ups, C-suite level professionals, and post-graduate degree students. She prefers the more practical, applied side of teaching over theory, and has a talent for teaching techy stuff to non-technical people.

While working in the UCD Michael Smurfit Business School, Dorcas returned to UCD as a student to take the Professional Diploma in Entrepreneurial Education. The UCD Innovation Academy opened up a new world of Design Thinking and Innovation to her. She was enthralled and completely convinced by our innovative learning methods.

Dorcas loves having the freedom to experiment with new teaching methods. She delivers interactive stimulating online learning experiences that inspire peer-to-peer learning and creativity with her students, and won a UCD Teaching and Learning Award in 2021. This is all thanks to her enthusiasm for collaborative, experiential education that gets students to believe in themselves.

Dorcas is also a passionate learning, and has recently completed another Professional Diploma in Teaching and Learning, also in UCD, as well as the Digital Badge in Universal Design for Teaching & Learning (UCD), Electronics for Creatives (IADT). She also makes time to exercise her creative muscles through photography and videography. She is the author of a WordPress bestseller and is currently working on an activity book focused on creativity and an educational game!

Why I joined the UCD Innovation Academy…

“During my experience with the UCD Innovation Academy as a student, I was exposed to a whole new world of teaching methods and Design Thinking. I changed everything about how I teach in both accredited and unaccredited courses. The UCD Innovation Academy plays a critical role in the universal learning of our students that come through the university, and I wanted to play my part in fostering innovation in this revolutionary way.”
